McVeigh and the 'Roids

Jacob Schwartz

Just suppose destiny had set you up with certain words and sounds, tied together in time and space with other sounds, so they automatically went together for you? Let's suppose further that the placement of these sounds were opposite other sounds? And let's define opposition by a hundred eighty degree angle, like two people seated at opposite ends of a round table. Let's say that fate is simply those events that you could not consciously control -- like the date, time, and place of your birth, for example?

The Challenging Setup. Maybe this opposition would always remain a symbol of challenge, open conflict, and ultimately when merged together they represent fulfillment, even a union. Like with two people at opposite ends of the round table, if either one moves, they become closer together. And when they merge, there is fulfillment, a pause, a preparation perhaps for another challenge. Like polar opposites uniting to challenge new polarities!

Oklahoma Rose. Well, when Timothy McVeigh was emerging from his mother's womb, when he was coming into view to begin a life, a resident on this planet, on the 23rd of April, 1968, at 7:51 in the evening in Lockport, New York, .... there on the eastern horizon, coming into view for those with the equipment to observe it, was Oklahoma! No, not the state, but the asteroid named Oklahoma.

Opposing Militant Washington. And what was opposite, setting at the very same moment? The planet Mars, from which we derive synonymous words like martial, Martians, and with planet Mars was Washington! Not the city Washington, but the asteroid named in the 19th century for it, Washingtonia. The practice of feminizing asteroid names with an -ia or -a ending was the practice in the 19th and first quarter of the 20th century among a very sexist astronomical community. The first woman to discover an asteroid did not happen until a century and a quarter after the first one was discovered in 1800.

Raising Hell in America, Literally. Was Timothy McVeigh born to raise hell in America? At his birth, America and Hel were literally approaching the zenith above. The asteroid America was discovered in 1915 by a Russian astronomer, and the asteroid Hel (one l) was named in 1921 by the discoverer's widow for the Norse goddess of the underworld. In the Norse underworld, there are nine levels based on deserved punishment, and Hel's hall is a den of sleet, and the goddess is waited upon by deities named for Delay and Slowness. At Timothy McVeigh's birth, America and Hel were moving together in the sky just moments away from being at the highest point above, shining upon him you might say.

Is there an asteroid named Tim, or Timothy, or McVeigh? No, but there is one named Timhunter for a radiologist named Tim Hunter. If we think of McVeigh as a hunter of targets to ventilate his rage against Washington and Oklahoma, raising hell in America, the asteroid Timhunter conveys an appropriate meaning and was well placed when McVeigh emerged on earth. It was at two degrees of the zodiac sign Taurus, exactly together with the Sun and Mercury at McVeigh's birth at two degrees Taurus. Doesn't this sound spooky?

Can Truth Seekers Unite? Astrologers have been relating what's up there to what's down here for thousands of years. Unfortunately, the mass media and academia now are generally in philosophical competition with astrology for finding the truth about a holistic universe. The media relegates astrology to the entertainment pages as an amusement and not to be taken seriously. The academics are satisfied to dismiss astrology as pop culture superstition, choosing to ignore and deny the research substantiating some validity to the subject. The most famous example of this, virtually unknown to academics, is the vast corpus of data collected and verified by Michel and Francoise Gauquelin in the 1950's and '60's. About three centuries ago, astrology was an intrinsic part of higher education.

Idealistic Fantasy. Anyway, getting back to McVeigh. One of the symbols astrologers use to describe idealism, fantasy, and dreams is the planet Neptune. And when McVeigh breathed his first breath, the planet Neptune was rising in the east at the very same degree as this asteroid Oklahoma. Even the psychologists reporting on McVeigh described him as an extremely idealistic person. And that asteroid Washingtonia and the planet symbolic of war, Mars, were in the section, just above the western horizon, that astrologers associate with people and things we like to keep company with. Well, with the planet Mars there, McVeigh liked keeping company with strong, "martial" like people. He never had a girlfriend, and his mother disappeared from his life at age ten, according to accounts. And if he was always thinking about how strong Washington was, as the symbol of the government, then that was his constant companion.

Why? Given this set up of the cosmos to "celebrate", if you will, McVeigh's birth, he still had choices to make as to how those names and sounds would manifest. He is still responsible for his actions and their consequences.

The asteroids help to answer the unanswerable question Why.

The choice was his, to use the Earth experience for constructive or destructive use. The responsibilities and the rewards are his, however the consequences play out. "Every person, all the events in your life," said Richard Bach in Illusions, "are there because you have drawn them there. What you choose to do with them is up to you."

What About the Explosion? Was there any signal in the sky that it was going to happen? After all, almost a thousand human beings were killed or wounded by the act of at least this one young man with a grudge against the federal government. Did Timothy McVeigh leave some kind of astrological fingerprint at the bombing? Did Terry Nichols?

Since there is no asteroid named Timothy or McVeigh, we're limited to using asteroid Timhunter, which just might be relevant since that asteroid was next to the Sun and Mercury when McVeigh was born. Asteroid Timhunter was setting in the western sky at the bombing, not particularly connected with any planet of destruction. But another asteroid was. Even though there's no asteroid Terry or Nichols, there is one called Nicholson. And astrologers generally have found that the planet Pluto relates to the underworld. And asteroid Nicholson at the moment of the bombing was right next to Pluto. And it may seem like we're stretching names here, but the closest we can come to the name Terry is Theresia, and the asteroid Theresia at the time of bombing was right next to the planet Mars. So, speaking "asteroid-ally," it looks like Terry Nichols may have had as much to do with the explosion than did Timothy McVeigh! Asteroid Theresia at the time of the bombing was exactly opposite asteroid America and Hel! Yes, America and Hel were together at the bombing, just as they were at McVeigh's birth!! Is that further "evidence" of Nichols' connection? Well, it would never hold up in any court, and the FBI will never take any of this seriously. But for those of us who look at the world as a larger whole, with implicit and subtle meanings all around, who feel that we are too limited to only what can be measured and repeated, this correlation provides much more speculative fun.

Will McVeigh's execution bring closure?

For some people it will, but for most of us there are the same shades of the mystery that surrounded Lee Harvey Oswald's death in connection with President John F Kennedy's assassination. While some politicians favored the one bullet, one gunman theory, many support a conspiracy theory, especially since so many unexplained deaths have occurred of all those involved with the Oswald death, except the folks who supported the one gunman theory!

Does all this prove that asteroids caused the events? No way. The names for asteroids, first of all, are given by astronomers, and usually the astronomer who discovered the asteroid. In many cases, the discoverer dies before naming the asteroid, or the discoverer is disinterested in naming it. In which case, a committee of astronomers decides on the name. And the names can not be bought, must be sixteen letters or less, not be vulgar or obscene, and not political in nature.

Since we don't really know cause anyway, we can only say that asteroid names provide a broader framework for these events. They add more color and flavor to the human drama. Maybe we are puppets in a complex play we can only humbly begin to appreciate. Perhaps what appears to be chaotic and "crazy" really has order after all. A century ago, a philosophy known as determinism was all the rage, and most people thought science would eventually explain everything. Now, a century later, chaos theory appears to be the current academic new way of thinking. And chaos theory maintains we cannot predict everything.

One more thing, when any planet or asteroid goes in an apparent retrograde motion, that is it appears to go backwards from its usual motion, it represents going backward to review something from the past. When McVeigh was born and the explosion took place, asteroid Oklahoma was going retrograde. When it goes in apparent forward motion, it is literally moving forward and placing the past behind it. Well, if McVeigh is executed on June 11, 2001, asteroid Oklahoma, and the state itself, will indeed be moving forward.

Can these asteroid position be verified by astronomers? Yes indeedy. Just contact the Minor Planet Center at Harvard's Smithsonian Institute, Cambridge, Massachusetts. And you can make these discoveries yourself with software from San Diego astrologer Mark Pottenger, his website markpott@pacbell.net.

Are There Other Examples of Asteroid "Coincidences"? Many.

Just recently when American tourist Dennis Tito lifted off in a Russian Soyuz rocket and joined the International Space Station on April 30, 2001, at four in the morning, the asteroid named Tito was exactly opposite the asteroid Soyuz-Apollo and the asteroid Baikonur, the name of the rocket launch station in Kazakhstan. On January 6, 1994 at 2:20 PM in Detroit, skater Nancy Kerrigan was brutally attacked by an assailant Shane Stant at the direction of rival skater Tonya Harding. At that very moment, asteroid Harding was rising on the eastern horizon, asteroid Tanya was setting on the western horizon, and asteroid Shane was literally in the middle directly beneath Detroit.

When President Bill Clinton was born, asteroids named Paula, Monica, and Williams were all together opposite the asteroid Hillary. When President Bush was elected by the inaugural college December 18, 2000, and at his inauguration January 20, 2001, asteroids Busch and Washingtonia were traveling together. When the singing group Peter, Paul and Mary first performed in Central Park, New York City, July 5, 1961, asteroids Peter, Paul, and Mary were together in the theatrical constellation Leo. When Fidel Castro and his troops occupied Havana, January 1, 1959, and declared Cuba as the first Marxist state in America, the asteroid Karl Marx and the asteroid America were together!

When Eva Peron, popularly known as Evita, was a famous political and social figure in Argentina, an Argentine astronomer discovered and named five asteroids for her and her work. When Madonna was born August 16, 1958, seven in the morning, Bay City Michigan, four of those asteroids named for Eva Peron were in a tight pattern directly overhead. And Madonna, when interviewed about her role in Evita, said she felt born for the part. She was. And we could go on and on and on. The website www.asteroids.com has more examples. Where are your asteroids tonight?
